Folks, never mind our past "Cold War" injected
sectarianism, exclusiveness, political correctness, having the one and only
true revolutionary organization, being against Communists and Trotskyites,
etc., we do not have much time left, to avoid a global Armageddon. The USA
know exactly the current state of affairs of the planet -- how long human
life will still be possible on earth.
The belligerent desperation, the bellicose urgency,
the megalomaniac brutality, the inhumane genocide, all these indicate that
world capitalism has passed the Rubicon, the point of no return.
As Trotsky said, dum spiro spero, as long
as I breathe, I hope, and I agree with him; nevertheless, all nations and
peoples, living in the Oil Bermuda Triangle, including Venezuela, are immediately
in imminent danger of global fascist intervention, extinction and
massacres.
What is happening here in Venezuela, in the last
analysis, has the full backing of the corporate mongrels and war mongers
of Europe and the USA -- make no mistake about it.

Folks, Friends, Visitors,
Many of us are confused, completely desperate, with reference to what
is going on around us, in Venezuela, on the globe. We talk about fascism,
accusing the current Bush government or the "Opposition" in Venezuela of
fascism.
Do we know what we are talking about?
Nearly two and a half years ago, I wrote down some notes, explaining what
is happening, and what will be coming, in the light of Orwell´s "1984".
Especially for our Venezuelan revolutionary comrades, we re-publish them,
in their two versions, and dedicate these "Orwellian Emancipatory Jewels"
to them, to understand far better what is happening in Venezuela, what really
is psychotic dissonance, what is mass media megalomania, and what is
US-European global fascism.

Introducing the Problem &
Brief Comments on Thomas Bearden

Already on June 12, 2000,
in an article, "The Unnecessary Energy Crisis: How to Solve It Quickly", T.
E. Bearden, LTC, U.S. Army (Retired) CEO, CTEC Inc., the Director of the Association
of Distinguished American Scientists (ADAS) and a Fellow Emeritus of the
Alpha Foundation's Institute for Advanced Study (AIAS), explained the energetic
quintessence of the current world recession, depression and crisis. In the
last analysis, within this context, the current crisis of Venezuela and the
war on Iraq have to be seen.
Below I am publishing this excellent document, from which I will quote
some passages. What did he write with reference to the world energy crisis?
"The world energy crisis
is now driving the economies of the world nations. Presently there
is an escalating worldwide demand for electrical power and transportation,
much of which depends on fossil fuels and particularly oil or oil products.
The resulting demand for oil is expected to increase year by year. Recent
sharp rises in some U.S. metropolitan areas included gasoline at more than
$2.50 per gallon already.
At the same time, it appears that world availability of oil may have peaked
in early 2000, if one factors in the suspected Arab inflation of reported
oil reserves. From now on it appears that oil availability will steadily
decline, slowly at first but then at an increasing pace."
Concerning the "some 150 nations", mainly of South America, Africa and
Asia, who live outside the big metropolitan countries, he explained
their immediate future:
" The transfer of manufacturing
and production to many of these nations is a transfer to essentially "slave
labour" nations where workers have few if any benefits, are paid extremely
low wages, work long hours, and have no unions or bargaining rights.
The local politicians can usually be "bought" very cheaply so that there are
also no effective government controls. This has set up a de facto return
to the feudalistic capitalism of an earlier era when enormous profits could
be and were extracted from the backs of impoverished workers, and government
checks and balances were nil."
Already in 2000, what did Bearden foresee for the immediate future?
"Bluntly, we foresee these factors
— and others { } not covered — converging to a catastrophic collapse of the
world economy in about eight years. As the collapse of the Western economies
nears, one may expect catastrophic stress on the 160 developing nations as
the developed nations are forced to dramatically curtail orders."
Thus, how do the desperate actions of blowing up "Twin Towers" and declaring
"new wars" on Afghanistan and Iraq, including oil sabotage in Venezuela,
fit into this gruesome picture?
" History bears out
that desperate nations take desperate actions. Prior to the final economic
collapse, the stress on nations will have increased the intensity and number
of their conflicts, to the point where the arsenals of weapons of mass destruction
(WMD) now possessed by some 25 nations, are almost certain to be released.
As an example, suppose a starving North Korea { } launches nuclear weapons
upon Japan and South Korea, including U.S. forces there, in a spasmodic suicidal
response."
And, how did he portray the current global fascism that has been launched
shortly thereafter?
" The resulting great Armageddon will destroy civilization
as we know it, and perhaps most of the biosphere, at least for many decades.
My personal estimate is that, beginning about 2007, on our present energy
course we will have reached an 80% probability of this ´final destruction
of civilization itself´ scenario occurring at any time, with the probability
slowly increasing as time passes. One may argue about the timing, slide
the dates a year or two, etc., but the basic premise and general time frame
holds. We face not only a world economic crisis, but also a world
destruction crisis."
We have reached the Year 2003, which for him is a critical year:
"The 2003 date appears to be
the critical "point of no return" for the survival of civilization as we have
known it.
Reaching that point, say, in 2005 will not solve the crisis in time, and
the collapse of the world economy as well as the destruction of civilization
and the biosphere will still almost certainly occur, even with the solutions
in hand. ... Eerily, this very threat now looms in our not
too distant future, due in large part to the increasing and unbearable stresses
that escalating oil prices will elicit. So about seven years or so from
now, we will enter the period of the threat of the Final Armageddon, unless
we do something very, very quickly now, to totally and permanently solve
the present "electrical energy from oil" crisis."
So, what Is required to solve the problem? Venezuela, listen very
carefully to what he said.
"To avoid the impending collapse of the world economy and/or the destruction
of civilization and the biosphere, we must quickly replace much of the "electrical
energy from oil" heart of the crisis at great speed, and simultaneously replace
a significant part of the "transportation using oil products" factor also.
... In the name of all humanity, let us begin! Else by
the time this first decade of the new millennium ends, much of humanity may
not remain to see the second decade."
What solutions he had suggested, you could read in the document
attached, however, according to him, it is now already too late. No real
measure was taken to avoid a global catastrophy.
At any event, la lutta continua, but it is important to see the
real, true, historic context of the current Venezuelan crisis; its solution
is to be found neither in "away with Chavéz" nor in "away with the
three "Carlos".

Democracy and
World Peace: "the heart of a heartless world
and the soul of soulless conditions".

There we go again! From the Third to the Fourth Reich!!
Europe, that really is Germany, does not want to miss a split second of
the global fascist "fun", of the slaughter of mankind, of the annihilation
of billions of obsolete physical labour forces, of the conquest of oil fields
and reserves. (See article below)
In fact, this is not a personal, individual issue, of "great men", making
great history, of accidents of history, of elitesque conspiracy, of satanic
lust and avarice; no, it is the inexorable logics of the global labour process,
its definite destructive course, its self-realization, its self-alienation.
This is the centralization, concentration, unification, monopolization
of economic, political and social power, the nodal point of Hegel’s World
Spirit, of Human Society, of Reason, of Capital, of Man. This is the globalized
unimensional, universal acme of the French Revolution, of all intra-systemic
evolutions and revolutions in History.
There is only one way out of this global-fascist Moloch: precisely, to
transcend all evolution and revolution, to transvolve, to leave the Labour
System, to ex, exto, towards
a real Exodus, towards historic emancipation.
What this definitely means, implies, can only be known, if praxico-theoretical
emancipators storm, not the Bastille, not the Winter Palace, but Heaven
itself, surpassing a world, in which War is Peace. This presupposes that
we become really conscious of ourselves, become self-aware, find ourselves,
find our feet inside and outside the universe.
The general ideology, the infowarfare of the world, in which we live is
called "democracy", it is what Marx said in another context, "its
spiritual point'd honneur, its enthusiasm, ... It is the fantastic
realization of the human being inasmuch as the human being possesses
no true reality". The transversal emancipatory struggle against this fake
"democracy" is directly the fight against a universal world whose spiritual
aroma ever since a century has been heinous, racist "democracy".
Democratic suffering, peaceful
agony, "infinite justice" (Bush) and the "right to assassinate terrorists"
(Rumsfeld), world wars, are at the same time a brutal expression
of real suffering; peace is the sigh of the billionfold oppressed, pauperized creature,
"the heart of a heartless world and the soul
of soulless conditions". It is the Euro-American
prozac "of, by and for the people!"

Occasionally, over the last five years, we have
made you aware of the dangers of US weather warfare, also of its European,
even Russian versions, of its electromagnetic transmission system, of HAARP,
warning you about the diabolical, belligerent, oil-hungry, megalomaniac motives,
of the possible mental manipulation of
whole populations, thus causing a mental holocaust, and of strategic weather
control and direction, that could result, for example, in a Vargas type of catastrophy like we had in Venezuela,
that could run totally bezerk, and have catastrophic genocidal effects and
results.
As this formal-logical world claims daily: Everything is possible!!
Of course, like the huge arsenal of US-European ABCDE-weapons, the bellicose
systems of weather warfare, of HAARP must be tested over and over again,
to reach fatal, mortal,
total, totalitarian perfection.

our territories, HAARP plays havoc with our agriculture, Pentagon Aliens
fly to Mars, and we on Earth devour rubbish, transgenic tomatoes or
potatoes that any wild boar would not even want to approximate, to smell,
much less, to eat.
Nonetheless, enjoy this midnight issue of our news.

I know that you are all excited about the news of the Columbia disaster,
enjoying the CNN reports.
Well, I refrained to comment about this global pan et circenses,
simply because, like in the case of the "Twin Towers", it is not worth wasting
the energy of a single emancipatory neurone.
I sent you my previous "Midnight Herald", and surely, for some of you it
must have been hair-raising, to know how little we know about this world.
However, talking about the "Columbia National Disaster", do you know that
on November 12, 1981, Shuttle Columbia STS2 supposedly
carried Astronauts Joseph Engle and Richard Truly. In fact there were no
human pilots aboard. It was shot down by Russian TU-144 jet airplanes using
beam weapons, over the White Sea, Finland; that since 1993, the
HAARP Project at Gakona, Alaska is injecting 4.3 Gigawatts of RF into the
Ionosphere? Do you know about the experiments slowing down the Earth´s
rotation? About the explosion of three nuclear bombs in
the Van Allen Belt in 1958 already? Why it does not rain so much
anymore?

MIDNIGHT REFLECTIONS ON POWER

It´s midnight. The candle flame turns blue.
The wicked sorcerer sets loose all the evil spirits of the underworld.
He already exploited the horse´s power,
even the sacred cows are now running mad. Where have all the flowers, all
the trees gone?
Even the air groans, moans, suffocated by the
smog, the fog of the scorched log. The rain, gone with the wind; and, in the
Iraqi desert air no rose blushes unseen anymore. Power, power reigns, rules
the waves, the electro-magnetic waves, scalar waves. Rocks melt, faith no
more moves mountains; Big Brother does. With the desert rats, Mohammad now
hides in the dark sewerage systems, in the quagmire of powerful oil mongrels,
of megalomaniac war mongers.
The bush is gone, so is the Bushman, only a wild
bush fire scorches, scourges the agonizing face of the earth. Innocent bush-babies,
so spoilt by their loving moms, now boil, broil in the oil of power.
Even knowledge is power, as Orwell predicted;
gnosis, episteme, paedagogics, all fall under the heavy blows of the brotherly
axe of Colin Powell and his rummy Nazi Feldmarschall, the honourable Rumsfeld.
Infowar, psychowar, cognitive dissonance, psychotic disassociation shake
the very foundation of Pallas Athena.
Power, Labour Power, Force, Coercion, Violence,
call them all by any other name, even name them Democracy, in which Kratos
definitely is Power per se, nonetheless, they all will remain just as terroristic,
will remain powerful terror, terrorist power.
Many of us are used to do things at the eleventh
hour, when jacta alea est, when the disaster is already waging in full force,
raging in huge flames. Some of us, across our lives, have made revolutionary
hay while the emancipatory sun is still shining.
Furthermore, the ideology that great men make
history sits so deep, forms the essence of our news bulletins and of the
international press, hence, looking for solutions, or by trying to avoid
catastrophes, we simply pack the bull by its tail, or we span the cart before
the horse. Some of us even think that great gods, great ideas, even great
races make global-galactic history. Well, on April 13-14, 2002, while Chavéz
was a prisoner on the Island of Orchila, we had a taste of who really make
emancipatory history in this galaxy, of who stop fascists and nazis, without
firing a single bullet.
Even the misleading idea of "Big Brother Is Watching
You" is a product of this fascist-fabricated "great man" ideological mind
control machination. With this kind of delirious approach, that totally misses
the real, true issue, as was the case of Afghanistan, as is now the case
of Iraq, as will be tomorrow the case of Venezuela, and, finally, as in the
coming case of Europe, nothing on earth, related to "great men", could or
would stop Corporate America in its inexorable belligerent forward march.
Togliatti said it clearly: "Es liegt am System!"
It is the system, the labour system, the universal system. Who has a lackadaisical
attitude towards the world system, who even affirms it daily, should not be
surprised that (s)he cannot stop a "good" or "evil" Great Man or all Great
Men, only by means of marches, prayers, negotiations, UN resolutions, voodoo
or even by signing millions of protest lists.
The world order in which we live, the epicentral
problem of mankind has very little to do with Illuminati, conspiracies, megalomania,
rather it has its own logical dynamics, in the perverse non-relation between
Nature and Society, in Production, Reproduction, in Work and Labour. The
very existence of Work or Labour is determined in such a way that it must
be exploited, dominated, discriminated, militarized and alienated, otherwise
it can not be labour. Where and when in the Patria, Labour ever did not get
this royal treatment? I would say: "Es liegt an der Arbeit!", the quintessential
problem has to do with Labour.
Hence, to eradicate unilateral, universal wars,
to stop the current American aggression, we should seriously reflect scientifically
and philosophically about our world system, about the fons et origo of the
real, true problem, and urgently get down to immediate emancipatory, to transvolutionary
measures, to establish transhistorically a sane, sound relation between

EMANCIPATORY STARDUST

Friends, Amigos and Freunde!!
I am especially addressing our international friends and supporters,
who for many reasons have declared their solidarity with Venezuela, and
who know and feel that what is happening here, soon will await them elsewhere
on the planet.
Certainly, we are aware of the arsenal of armament, resources, weapons,
power and capital at the disposal of those who want to force Venezuela onto
her knees, to continue to exploit, dominate and rape her. We are aware of
the infinitesimal chance that the Chavéz government has, confronted
with an omnipotent wild bush fire. We know that this adversary is the very
same one, born since ages, having its seat in the metropolitan countries,
that pillaged, ransacked and plundered our continents for centuries already.
At no time in patrian history, we really had a true chance of shaking
this blood-sucker, this bloodthirsty Behemoth off our backs; our billions
of prayers were left unheard, no saviour on high, not even from below, wiped
our tears away, that could fill oceans; our massacred fathers, mothers,
kith and kin, the victims of European Christianity, Civilization and Culture,
if they could hold hands, would go around the earth uncountable times, would
reach the moon bases of corporate imperialism; we know that the hearts
of our oppressors, local, regional, national and international, are made
of stone, their everlasting egoism, avarice, crimes and megalomania have
no limits, in any language, there are no words to describe them.
We are born in violence and terrorism, we survive in a terrorist world,
we will pass away in a mass grave of terror. This is, was and will be the
earthly reality of billons of physical workers. All this is not caused
specifically by cruel, great individuals, by the wrath of the gods, by having
the wrong big ideas in our heads, by belonging to a cursed, inferior race;
It does not even concern our sex, figure or colour.
It concerns that what is forbidden, the forbidden fruits, the classified
knowledge, the secrets of exploitation and oppression, forbidden to think,
forbidden to do, forbidden to know; those things that have been eradicated
deliberately from our memory, from our brains, by universality, socialization,
education, beliefs, religion, ideology, manipulation, indoctrination and
alienation. Progressively, systematically, we have been robbed of humanness,
humaneness, humanity. Our natural and social relations have become formal-logical,
ossified, petrified, putrefied, have become thing-relations, consumer-relations,
cash-relations; we are being prostituted; our bodies, minds and souls can
be cloned, be bought, can be sold; we have become zombies, wares, goods,
even obsolete, valueless merchandise. We are being alienated, we are aliens,
to ourselves, and to our natural habitat. We are tools that speak, working
animals, pack animals, that have lost their "human rights" on Earth.
Over the millennia, over the centuries, over the decades, everywhere,
anywhere, anyhow, within this labour system, we have protested, organized
liberation movements, we fought, we were killed, tortured and terrorized,
and like Phoenix, we again and again rose from our own ashes, and we continued
the emancipatory struggle. We were and are die-hards, we have nine lives,
and yet, the Leviathan inexorably continued, continues and certainly will
continue its apocalyptic holocaust, reducing everything human, decent and
sacred to dust, even production and labour themselves.
Hence, Venezuela, Quo vadis?
The only thing that we can do is to perform our emancipatory uttermost
best, more we can't do, less we should not do; we should not leave any stone
unturned, not any graviton or photon unanalysed, not a revolutionary idea
unstudied, not a stumbling block unsurpassed, we should not transpass,
leaving a world behind in which we have not eternalized indelibly our very
emancipatory star-dust. Only then, we are free, free of self-blame, free
of opportunism, boot-licking, corruption and defeatism, only then, we, Venezuela
and the Globe, are and will be free, emancipated. Where there is human
breath, there is militant optimism, where there are exploitation, domination,
discrimination, militarism and alienation, exactly there the aurora, their
very opposite also exists, and, even much, much more, that is, their very
real, true transcendence, transhistoric, transvolutionary emancipation.
Thus, hands off Venezuela!

THE CHAVÉZ MYSTERY:
THE EMANCIPATORY HONEYSUCKLE OF CARACAS
FRIENDS, AMIGOS,
Those of you, who only possess instrumental Spanish, or those who can
only apply instrumental English, thus, not being able directly to study
Latin American and Venezuelan global realities, surely have pondered over
the secret, the phenomenon, the mystery of Hugo Chavéz Frías.
Of course, if you still possess those innate, human, transhistoric, detective
PSI-factors, excelling all ideological conceptions of history, very easily
you could solve, resolve this Edgar Allan Poe
or Agatha Christie mystery.
Firstly, the mysterious figure, as Chavéz himself always explains,
is not the individual Hugo; he may be "charismatic", "nationalist",
"populist", "militarist", "messianic" or even "neo-liberalist", as so many
international analysts formal-logically claim, but this is not what is on
the transvolutionary global order of the day. So often with precision he
explained already on which transhistoric crest of the huge, global emancipatory
waves he is being carried forward.
Secondly, Chavéz, with all his pro´s and con´s, with
all his victories and errors, is a transhistoric product, more precisely,
he is a transvolutionary creation of our epoch, is an exact expression of
these turbulent, transitional times. In all walks of life, facing the new,
the original, the authentic, you could find global expressions of him, of
this process of transcendental metamorphosis; furthermore, he himself forms
part and parcel of these immense, momentous events.
There is nothing mysterious, nothing strange, nothing diabolical, nothing
tyrannical about him. In his name, it is Venezuela, the Americas, Africa,
Asia and elsewhere, the totality of all the downtrodden, that expresses its
deepest daydreams, its juvenile fantasies, its mature expectations, its
wise, militant optimism. Call Hugo by any other name, even call him Victor,
always he will be just as sweet as the yearning emancipatory nectar flowing
from all natural honeysuckles, from all so-called "Les Miserables" of this
world.
Finally, now you all know who is Chavéz: you all are Chavéz,
thus enjoy the article below.

UN and US back French intervention in Ivory Coast.

Folks,
It is fine to have fair-weather friends,
for political, strategic and diplomatic reasons. We could be a personal friend,
a pana of Chirac, who had declared all "terrorists" as the "absolute
evil"; we could beg France to use its right of the veto in the UN Security
Council to block an American attack on Iraq; the Bolivarian Venezuelan Minister
of Education, Aristóbulo Istúriz, could have a cool Polar beer
with his long-time friend, Carlos Ortega, the fascist, racist, diatribal,
Venezuelan "opposition" leader; under certain circumstances, even Chavéz
comradely could embrace Alfredo Peña and Michelena; but, beware with
what and whom you mix socially and politically, these types of friendships,
these "Amigos of Venezuela", including the USA, are not precisely recommendable;
they could be mortal, fatal, lethal, yet, in Venezuela, as we all know, all
these reflect true democratic, even constitutional, freedom of choice, of
assembly, and of speech.
However, folks, there is a patrian truism, always to remember: show me
your friends, and I know who you are! This is not valid in all the above
cases, but, nevertheless, beware!!
Nonetheless, another transhistoric, class-analytic experience grasps the
dangerous situation even better: the ruling classes could devour each other
like wolves and lions, but when it comes to their immediate energetic, economic,
political, social and military interests and privileges, threatened by the
under-dogs, the downtrodden of the earth, they instantaneously waive all
their differences, then, all of them very cosily creep under the same fascist
blanket of silence, and at whim, disrespecting their very own "democratic"
constitutions and laws, they murder, assassinate and annihilate everything

Paris, 15 de febrero. Millones de personas
protestaron este sábado en todo el mundo para tratar de impedir una
guerra contra Irak, después de que miembros del Consejo de Seguridad
de la Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU) pidieron a Estados Unidos
que dé una oportunidad para la solución pacífica del
conflicto. Los cálculos de diferentes agencias señalan que en
600 ciudades del orbe marcharon cerca de 30 millones.
En París, entre 100 mil personas, según la policía,
y 250 mil conforme a cálculos de los organizadores, se manifestaron
contra la guerra en Irak, aunque la participación fue menor a la
de otras capitales europeas como Londres, Berlín, Roma y Madrid. Decenas
de veteranos franceses de la Guerra del Golfo encabezaron la manifestación
en la que participaron personajes como el líder antiglobalización
José Bové y el ex ministro Jean-Pierre Chevenement, quien renunció
a la cartera de Defensa en 1991, cuando Francia decidió apoyar la operación
militar contra Bagdad.
"Hace 12 años se nos envió allá, no sabemos muy
bien por qué. Teníamos que deshacernos presuntamente de Saddam
Hussein, pero no acabamos la tarea y causamos víctimas civiles", declaró
Thierry Christian, ex cabo, que padece ahora el llamado "síndrome del
Golfo", caracterizado por temblores y nerviosismo. Hubo manifestaciones importantes
en ciudades como Lyon, Marsella y Estrasburgo.

En Londres, más de 2 millones de personas rechazaron una guerra
contra Irak, según la cifra proporcionada por los organizadores en
el centro de Hyde Park, el tradicional parque de la capital británica.
El alcalde de Londres, Ken Livingstone, uno de los principales pacifistas,
afirmó que la policía le informó sobre la cifra de "un
millón" de participantes, informó la BBC en su edición
digital. Livingstone aseguró que es la manifestación más
grande "en 2 mil años de historia inglesa".
El primer ministro Tony Blair aprovechó su discurso en la conferencia
del Partido Laborista para defender su política hacia Irak y señaló
que "respetaba" y entendía el deseo de marchar. Pero añadió:
"No busco la impopularidad como una divisa de honor, pero algunas veces ese
es el precio del liderazgo y el costo de la convicción". El reverendo
Jesse Jackson, ex candidato a la presidencia de Estados Unidos, participó
en la marcha en Londres, y pidió a George W. Bush y a Blair que "escuchen
nuestras voces. No queremos sangre a cambio de petróleo".
Alemania vivió la mayor manifestación pacifista de su
historia, cuando más de medio millón de personas desbordaron
el centro de Berlín en una marcha contra una posible guerra en Irak.
La movilización superó completamente las previsiones de los
organizadores y la policía. La caminata por las principales calles
de Berlín se realizó en dos columnas masivas de manifestantes
cuyas pancartas reflejaron la gran heterogeneidad de los opositores a la
guerra.
Junto a ministros del gobierno alemán, como Juergen Trittin,
de Ambiente; Renate Kuenast, de Agricultura, y Hediemarie Wieczorek-Zeul,
de Ayuda al Desarrollo, y Wolfgang Thierse, presidente de la Cámara
de Diputados, que desestimaron la petición del canciller Gerhard Schroeder
de no asistir, participaron representantes de todas las iglesias, militantes
antiglobalización, exigiendo "boicot a todas las multinacionales del
petróleo". En toda la jornada no se produjeron incidentes violentos.
Provenientes de toda Italia, 3 millones de personas llegaron a Roma
para manifestarse pacíficamente contra la guerra y por la paz mundial,
lo que constituyó la mayor marcha pacifista desde 1945 y una de las
más multitudinarias organizadas en Europa. "No a la guerra, impidamos
la guerra contra Irak", "No a esparcir sangre por el petróleo", "Ni
con Bush ni con Saddam", proclamaban las numerosas pancartas izadas por niños,
ancianos, sindicalistas, trabajadores, inmigrantes. La marcha, que se desarrolló
en un clima festivo bajo la vigilancia de más de 2 mil policías
y carabineros, fue abierta por un grupo de kurdos e iraquíes acompañados
por representantes antiglobalización del Foro Social Europeo.
Mientras, la policía antidisturbios de Grecia usó gas
lacrimógeno al registrarse enfrentamientos durante la manifestación
en Atenas. Decenas de miles portaban pancartas en las que se podían
leer lemas como "Abajo Estados Unidos" o "La guerra no es la única
respuesta". La marcha se desarrolló desde la principal plaza ateniense,
Sintagma, hasta la embajada de Estados Unidos, acordonada por cientos de
policías. Centenares de personas se apartaron de la marcha pacífica
y rompieron escaparates, quemaron decenas de coches y atacaron los edificios
del diario Ta Nea. Antes, en la muralla de la Acrópolis, los manifestantes
colgaron una pancarta gigante que rezaba: "OTAN, Estados Unidos y Unión
Europea igual a la guerra".
Unas 35 mil personas -según la policía- salieron a las
calles del centro de Bruselas para repudiar una posible agresión a
Irak, en un ambiente de fiesta y con numerosas pancartas pacifistas. A la
cabeza de la manifestación estuvieron representantes de las casi 140
organizaciones no gubernamentales, sindicatos y otros colectivos agrupados
en la Plataforma Belga contra la Guerra en Irak y en la Stop USA, los dos
organizadores de la protesta.
En América Latina también se efectuaron manifestaciones
en favor de la paz. En Guatemala decenas de activistas de derechos humanos,
sindicalistas y ex guerrilleros participaron en la marcha por varias avenidas
capitalinas. Más de mil personas se concentraron frente a la embajada
de Estados Unidos en Tegucigalpa, la capital de Honduras, para decir "no"
a la guerra contra Irak.
El presidente del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID), Enrique
Iglesias, se pronunció contra la guerra debido a los daños
que causaría a la economía mundial, algo que, afirmó,
ya se está viendo reflejado en el aumento del petróleo, tras
el cierre de la 17 reunión de consulta de los gobernantes del istmo
centroamericano y República Dominicana, en la capital hondureña.
Unas 200 personas se manifestaron en Managua contra los planes bélicos
de Estados Unidos en Irak. Participaron miembros de la comunidad palestina
y otras nacionalidades. Con mucho humor e irreverencia, miles de brasileños
de norte a sur del país se sumaron a las manifestaciones contra la
guerra. Los manifestantes vistieron trajes alegóricos y cómicos,
como si estuviesen en carnaval. En Chile, cientos de manifestantes marcharon
en Santiago y se congregaron ante el palacio presidencial de La Moneda, donde
quemaron dos banderas de Estados Unidos. Los organizadores de la protesta,
entre ellos Amnistía Internacional, estimaron que su convocatoria reunió
a 3 mil personas.
Asimismo, centenares de miles de iraquíes, según las estimaciones
de periodistas en el lugar, recorrieron las calles de Bagdad para protestar
contra el proyecto de Bush de atacar su país. En Beirut más
de 60 mil libaneses y palestinos de diversas tendencias políticas marcharon
contra la guerra, según la Afp. En tanto, más de 3 mil manifestantes
judíos y árabes, según estimó un corresponsal
de Afp, se reunieron en Tel Aviv y mostraron pancartas con la inscripción
"No sangre a cambio de petróleo". Del lado palestino, más de
600 personas se manifestaron en Ramallah (Cisjordania), y acusaron a Estados
Unidos de querer sustituir a la ONU. En Nueva Zelanda, 7 mil personas se
congregaron ante el Parlamento de Wellington, y otros tantos desfilaron en
las calles de Auckland.

participantes
Manifestantes de 151 ciudades de EE.UU a Bush: "queremos paz, no guerra"

Nueva York, 15 de febrero. Manifestantes, títeres, veteranos
de guerra, sindicalistas, estudiantes, religiosos, poetas y artistas inundaron
el centro de Nueva York y otras 150 ciudades estadunidenses para sumarse a
la demanda mundial contra la guerra. "No en nuestro nombre", gritó
el actor Danny Glover, consigna repetida durante todo el día por aproximadamente
250 mil (no hay cifra oficial) personas que llenaron más de 20 cuadras
de la Primera Avenida, cuyos números se extendieron por todo el lado
este del centro de esta ciudad. "Escuchen la voz del pueblo, porque frecuentemente
la voz del pueblo es la voz de Dios y estas voces están gritando paz",
declaró el arzobispo y premio Nobel de la Paz Desmond Tutu, de Sudáfrica.
Los manifestantes respondieron coreando: "paz, paz, paz".
Entre los manifestantes había un contingente de Familias Militares
por la Paz, con pancartas que declaraban: "apoyen a nuestras tropas, regrésenlas
a casa". Estos son padres y parientes de militares ahora desplegados en
el Golfo Pérsico. Una llevaba la foto de su hijo, un marine, que
decía: "no lo envíen a una guerra por el petróleo".
Contingentes de veteranos de Vietnam y de otras guerras, y hasta de
la organización Veteranos de la Brigada Abraham Lincoln (voluntarios
estadunidenses que lucharon en la guerra civil española), algunos con
sus condecoraciones militares de batalla y uniformes, se congregaron frente
a la biblioteca principal de Nueva York, en la Quinta Avenida y la Calle
42, listos para unirse a la concentración masiva. Coreaban: "hey,
hey, Tío Sam, no queremos otro Vietnam".
Este era sólo uno de más de 70 contingentes que organizaron
sus marchas al sitio principal, casi frente a la sede de la ONU, desde varios
puntos de la ciudad, en un día de intenso frío. El gobierno
municipal había negado el permiso para marchar, sólo autorizó
uno para un mitin inmóvil. Pero esta táctica fracasó
cuando diversas marchas, para sumarse a la manifestación, de repente
abrumaron a los agentes de seguridad al ocupar partes de las avenidas Lexington,
la Tercera y Segunda. En momentos en que se logró ocupar la calle,
estallaron gritos de triunfo de los participantes: "las calles son nuestras",
declaraban.
La diversidad de la participación fue notable: jóvenes
con aretes en las narices y cabello spike, familias de profesionales con su
ropa fina y sus hijos bien portados, sindicalistas del sector de salud, maestros
y trabajadores municipales. También enormes contingentes de palestinos,
uno de judíos, cuáqueros, católicos, musulmanes, gays
y artistas, entre muchos más.
Aviva Siegel, una abuela de setenta y tantos años, viajó
desde los suburbios de Nueva York con su pancarta, que declaraba: "La disidencia
es patriótica". Otras mantas y pancartas ofrecían toda una gama
de expresiones populares e identificaciones: "Teatros por la paz", "Arrojen
a Bush, no bombas", "No a la guerra por el petróleo", "Elijan un loco
y el resultado es la locura" y otras que declaraban simplemente: "Gracias
Francia" y "Gracias Alemania".
"Uno no detiene el terrorismo al aterrorizar a otros", declaró
Martin Luther King III, y poco después el actor Harry Belafonte, citando
al padre de ese orador, recordó que el gran líder de derechos
civiles dijo que "si la humanidad no pone fin a la guerra, la guerra pondrá
fin a la humanidad". Otros oradores fueron Susan Sarandon, Pete Seeger y Rosie
Perez.
La policía trató a los manifestantes como si fueran una
amenaza para la ciudad, pues movilizó a miles de agentes en el centro,
clausuró algunas estaciones del Metro y colocó francotiradores
en algunas azoteas. La presencia intimidatoria de la policía, algunos
con equipo antimotín y otros a caballo, no logró suprimir el
festival de protesta. Al fin del día, las protestas de aquí
y del resto del país fueron en gran medida pacíficas, con pocos
arrestos (unos 50 en Nueva York).
Decenas de miles más se manifestaron en ciudades de este país,
de Yakima, Washington, a Miami, Florida, pasando por Chicago, Filadelfia,
Detroit y más. En Los Angeles, los actores Anjelica Huston, Alfre Woodward,
Martin Sheen y el director Rob Reiner, entre otros, encabezaron la marcha.
"No hay absolutamente ninguna razón para esta guerra", afirmó
Huston. Mientras el mundo celebraba la paz, en la Casa Blanca se vivió
un día de luto.
Aznar, lameculos de Bush, entre las consignas
Más de 5 millones marchan en España contra la guerra

Madrid, 15 de febrero. Millones de personas tomaron hoy las principales
ciudades españolas bajo el unívoco mensaje de "no a la guerra",
en lo que significó una movilización social sin precedentes
en este país. Madrid, con más de dos millones de manifestantes,
y Barcelona, con un millón 300 mil, registraron las mayores concentraciones
de esta jornada histórica, en la que se escucharon reiteradas consignas
contra la política belicista del presidente de Estados Unidos, George
W. Bush, y críticas a la postura del gobierno español, de José
María Aznar, que respalda la guerra "preventiva" contra Irak.
La convocatoria del Foro Social Mundial, respaldada por todos los partidos
políticos de oposición, los sindicatos y gran número
de organizaciones no gubernamentales, fue un éxito, al lograr la mayor
movilización social en la historia reciente del país, superior
incluso a las registradas en los difíciles años de la transición
a la democracia. La respuesta de los ciudadanos españoles, de Galicia
a Andalucía, de Cataluña a Extremadura, fue el reflejo del rechazo
mayoritario a la postura de Aznar frente a la crisis, al convertirse, junto
con el primer ministro de Gran Bretaña, Tony Blair, y el presidente
italiano, Silvio Berlusconi, en los principales impulsores europeos de los
planes militares de George Bush en el golfo Pérsico.
Las 25 manifestaciones que se desarrollaron de forma pacífica
en las principales ciudades de España congregaron a más de cinco
millones de personas, quienes decidieron salir a las calles para rechazar
"la guerra y a los políticos que nos conducen a la masacre de un pueblo".
En Madrid, la inmensa concentración se desplegó desde
la Puerta del Sol hasta la calle de Alcalá y el Paseo de la Castellana,
desde la estación ferroviaria de Atocha hasta el monumento a Colón.
La marcha contra la guerra también se convirtió en un escenario
en el que se alertó sobre el cúmulo de conflictos y padecimientos
endémicos que provoca la "globalización neoliberal", por lo
que se escucharon denuncias sobre la situación del pueblo palestino,
de la guerra abierta en Colombia, de la situación de hambre y desesperanza
que sufre Africa y de la política de "exterminio" que se aplica a los
países pobres.
Entre los numerosos colectivos estaban presentes simpatizantes del Ejército
Zapatista de Liberación Nacional, quienes denunciaron la "guerra
global y permanente" que impone el "capitalismo neoliberal". La comitiva,
que portaba fotografías de niños y jóvenes zapatistas,
también reivindicó el "sistemático incumplimiento de
los acuerdos de San Andrés" por parte del gobierno mexicano y la situación
que sufre América Latina, sobre todo en Argentina y Venezuela.
Todos los manifestantes, encolerizados por la "imposición" de
esta guerra en Irak, "sin moral ni justificación", gritaron consignas
que reflejan el malestar ante el conflicto bélico y, sobre todo, por
la postura del presidente español: "No a la guerra"; "otro mundo es
posible", "Aznar, si quieres petróleo limpia el chapopote"; "Aznar,
lameculos de Bush" y "no más sangre por petróleo".
Al final de la marcha, el cineasta Pedro Almodóvar y los actores
Leonor Watling y Fernando Fernán Gómez irrumpieron en la Puerta
del Sol para mandar un mensaje contundente a Bush y Aznar. "Las acusaciones
lanzadas por Estados Unidos y el Reino Unido sobre la reanudación de
los programas de armas de destrucción masiva por parte de Irak han
resultado ser meras excusas para justificar una nueva guerra en Medio Oriente",
señaló el comunicado leído por Almodóvar.
Pese a ello, añadió, "la administración Bush prosigue
con sus preparativos para atacar a este país, habiendo intensificado
en las últimas semanas sus presiones para obtener el apoyo internacional
a sus planes". Asimismo, alertó que "el peligro de guerra es inminente",
pero "somos más de 2 millones de personas los que estamos hoy aquí
y no entendemos eso de una guerra preventiva, ya que la única prevención
contra la guerra se llama paz".
Después de explicar que Irak es un país hundido en la
miseria tras una década de sanciones económicas y bombardeos
intermitentes, se advirtió que las consecuencias de una nueva escalada
militar en aquel país serán, según datos de la ONU,
"de millones de personas afectadas por hambrunas y epidemias y más
de dos millones de refugiados", lo que provocó el grito unánime
de "asesinos", dirigido a "esos políticos que nos conducen a la guerra".
Asimismo, se advirtió que el ataque a Bagdad provocará un
"nuevo ordenamiento mundial, en el que las normas jurídicas vigentes
hasta ahora habrán quedado anuladas por la nueva doctrina estadunidense
de guerra preventiva, suplantando el derecho de autodeterminación
de los pueblos".
Fernán Gómez afirmó que "Aznar comprometió
ya el apoyo del Estado español a la agresión contra Irak, al
ceder sin restricción el uso de las bases conjuntas hispanoestadunidenses,
violando con ello la legalidad institucional y la Constitución. "Así
nos convertimos en agresores directos del pueblo iraquí, con una nueva
guerra de devastación contra su país y nos enfrentamos, en
el nuestro, a un peligro de quiebra democrática interna y a un grave
proceso de regresión de derechos civiles y libertades", concluyó.

Chirac anuncia que Francia se opondrá
a
nueva resolución de la ONU con respecto a Irak

De acuerdo a varios cables de
agencias informativas, el Presidente de Francia Jacques Chirac acaba de anunciar
que su país se opondrá a la aprobación de una nueva
resolución de la ONU para autorizar un ataque militar a Irak en estos
momentos.
El gobierno de EEUU decidió recientemente proponer a la ONU que
se redacte una nueva resolución que autorize automaticamente el uso
de la fuerza militar si el gobierno de Irak rehusa a "desarmarse voluntariamente".
"No hay necesidad de redactar otra resolución el día de hoy.
Francia no tendrá otra opción que opponerse a ello", dijo Chirac
al arribar a la reunión extraordinaria de la Unión Europea convocada
para analizar el conflicto generado por la intención de EEUU y Gran
Bretaña de atacar militarmente a Irak.
Francia es uno de los miembros permanentes del Consejo de Seguridad de
la ONU, y por lo tanto tiene poder de veto sobre cualquier resolución
emanada de dicho organismo.
